Between big ships, hot rocks and monster mines, South Australia is on the cusp of a jobs boom for a whole new generation of workers. A huge wave of jobs have been created from the $6 billion air warfare destroyer contract and the massive expansion in the resource and mining sector.

In the last few years South Australia has grown from its traditional rural and manufacturing base into an exciting and diverse trading region that demonstrates impressive growth across a range of key thriving industries.

South Australia’s defence industry contributes more than $1 billion to the state’s economy annually and has gone from strength to strength – earning Adelaide the title of Australia's defence capital.

The other booming industry is mining with South Australia’s resources industry growing at its fastest rate for decades thanks to projects including Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, geothermal energy and Cooper Basin, just to name a few.

South Australia's information and communications technologies (ICT) industries base is one of the fastest growing in Australia. It offers world-class capability in design, development and manufacture, and produces innovative companies at the forefront of telecommunications, animation, multimedia and software solutions.

The automotive and food industries, including wine, have led the state's export growth over the past decade. Manufacturing continues as an important sector of the state economy, employing close to 93,000 people, or 12.5% of South Australian jobs.

South Australia is also home to more than 300 export-oriented health companies marketing products and services to more than 100 countries worldwide. Bioscience is a rapidly developing new industry, with 50 new companies expected to set up in the State in the next decade.
